All of the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial ingredients of this recipe work together to bolster the immune system, which lends legitimacy to the ancient Ayurvedic practice of using golden milk to help treat coughs and colds. For example, fabulously, the black pepper in this recipe, specifically, is said to boost the body's ability to absorb curcumin, the main bioactive compound within turmeric: so this spice blend works as a symphony. If you can't get fresh turmeric, you can substitute 1 teaspoon of ground turmeric but it will have a distinctly different flavour.
i n g r e d i e n t s:
400ml almond milk
2 or 3cm chunk fresh turmeric root, or 1 tsp ground turmeric
1 tbsp raw honey
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cardamom
5 whole black peppercorns
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until the peppercorns have fully broken. Either drink cool and fresh or warm and comforting.
